Question: When you first read the title of this post, did you wonder if “played” was a typo and I really meant to write “prayed?” We naturally expect pastors to be praying, but playing may seem inappropriate for such a holy and serious calling.
In reality, play is an important ingredient of our physical and emotional health that is often neglected as we focus on our responsibilities at work and at home. Those with children or grandchildren around have a built in excuse to play, and to marvel at the creativity and imagination of kids, but the rest of us need to find ways to play, too. Whether it’s riding roller coasters (a personal favorite of mine), playing cards or other games, participating in recreational sports, painting, sculpting, or whatever else is enjoyable for you, taking the time to play will actually help you be more productive later. More importantly, it’s fun, and couldn’t we all use more fun in our lives?
